"Friends & Family" has zero protection — and scammers insist on it specifically for that reason. If a new client pushes hard for PayPal Friends & Family, treat it as a warning sign.

Personal check — only from repeat clients you trust A personal check is fine after you've worked with someone two or three times and trust them. Not recommended for a first job with someone you've never met — checks can bounce up to two weeks later.

Cryptocurrency Bitcoin, Ethereum, or any other digital currency is never used to pay for local pet sitting, babysitting, or errands. No exceptions.

If you already sent money — act fast Call your bank right away if you sent money by bank transfer or Zelle. If you used a gift card, call the card issuer's number on the back and report it. If you used a wire transfer, call your bank immediately — speed matters. Some banks can reverse or freeze transfers within hours.

Report to the FTC File a free report at ReportFraud.ftc.gov — no phone call needed. Your report helps federal authorities track down scammers. You can also call 1-877-382-4357 if you prefer.
